There are seven cooperative principles that guide housing cooperatives in their governance and operations. Equally important, cooperatives are based on the values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity, and solidarity.

The coop- corporation is membership-based, with membership granted by way of a share purchase in the cooperative. To qualify as a member,One must have attained 18 years of age, pay a registration fee of kshs 1,000, share capital of kshs 3,000 and start making a monthly contribution of kshs 1,000. Each shareholder or member in Vision 4 Youth housing cooperative is granted the right to occupy a housing unit.
